Heritage — Kwakwaka'wakw/Coast Salish
Maynard was born in 1973 in Campbell River, British Columbia. He is a descendant of both the Kwakwaka’wakw and Coast Salish nations and has thus inherited a unique blend of culture and tradition.
Artistically, although he began drawing at the age of six, it was in his mid-teens that Maynard began to work seriously at developing his natural artistic talent.
Due to various life experiences, his artwork takes influence from many Nations. However he blends Coast Salish and Kwakwaka’wakw art forms to result in a unique and contemporary vision of traditional legends and their depictions.
During his career, Maynard has won several logo and art competitions. His work can be found in many local and international collections-both private and commercial.
